DYONYX selected by Dept. of Health and Human Services to Facilitate Management of Medical Countermeasure Programs

Houston based firm to implement technology and management solutions for Washington DC Agency

Houston, Texas, September 27, 2006 - DYONYX announced today they have been awarded contracts with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures (OPHEMC) to help the agency combat natural disasters and bio terrorism. These multi-year contracts (base year plus option years on each) include the development of an industry stakeholder web portal, data and document management system and subsequent hosting and managed services support.

OPHEMC is responsible for coordinating, advising and providing risk management for HHS-wide research and development programs related to combat Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). These activities must be properly communicated and coordinated with other agencies such as DHS, DoD, the Assistant Secretary and other agencies dealing with medical countermeasures. According to an HHS source: “Managing the numerous portfolios of various medical countermeasure acquisition programs is a complex task. Ever since the Project BioShield Act of 2004 was first implemented, OPHEMC acquisition project officers have not had access to “portfolio specific” tools to help them manage projects, using desktop tools such as email and spreadsheets for the management and communication of project portfolios.”

According to the mission of OPHEMC, it has become increasingly important that the United States develops and has access to medical countermeasures that will vaccinate the population in the event of a natural disaster or act of terrorism. Keeping abreast of the latest research along with all current and emerging medical countermeasures is a complex task and OPHEMC is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the interagency development and acquisition of these solutions.

By leveraging its experience with portal development and hosted technology for other government and health services organizations, DYONYX will provide OPHEMC stakeholders with secure access, optimized service delivery and information sharing between private industry and the multiple government agencies involved in the research, development and acquisition of medical countermeasures.

DYONYX President Chuck Orrico said: “We are proud to have been selected by HHS for our demonstrated expertise providing a wide range of needs analysis, project management and IT support services to other commercial, federal, state and local government customers, and look forward to assisting HHS with this important initiative.” (Other DYONYX customers include Division of Immigration and Health Services (a division of Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Department of Homeland Security, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, State of Texas Children’s Advocacy Centers and the City of Houston Department of Health and Human Services and Houston Emergency Center.)
